Surrounded by Dale Chihuly’s inspiring glass artwork, an equally inspiring capacity crowd came together on April 18 for the University of Washington Medicine’s annual Spring Soirée. Speakers including university leaders, researchers and UW Medicine patients all helped evoke a hopeful future, celebrating the power of medical research and philanthropy to create a better, healthier community for all. “You are the canvas,” said Tim Dellit, UW Medicine Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs, “I hope you feel proud of what we’re achieving together.”
This year’s celebration focused on incredible advancements in the treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease, including several promising therapies and clinical trials across the Pacific Northwest. UW Medicine is also a world leader in cancer research, and since 2020, the Kuni Foundation has awarded more than $22 million to researchers and physicians across UW Medicine and Fred Hutch Cancer Center. This funding includes substantial investments in UW Medicine’s Cancer Vaccine Institute, which advances vaccines and immunotherapies that ignite the immune system to end cancer.
Despite the ongoing uncertainty and volatility with the federal funding of research, the event was filled with hope and determination. “We’re not slowing down … we can’t,” shared one researcher about UW Medicine’s unwavering commitment to their vital work.
Many thanks to the entire UW Medicine community for all that you do to advance cancer research and beyond. Below are some additional pictures from our time together.
