Matt Newell
Vice Chair
Matt is a partner at the law firm of Eidos Legacy. His practice is focused on advising closely held businesses and their owners on real estate transactions, business transactions, and corporate governance. Matt’s expertise and professional experience apply to a myriad of industries, with a specialty in the retail automotive industry.
Prior to joining Eidos Legacy, Matt served as in-house counsel to several automotive companies. From 2011 to 2016, Matt was Chief Legal Officer of Kuni Automotive, where he was responsible for managing all legal affairs and all aspects of the company’s real estate portfolio, including acquisitions, development and manufacturer relations. Matt worked with Kuni’s small management team to execute on an aggressive growth strategy by which Kuni ultimately reached $1.5 billion in sales, employed 1,500 team members and built a reputation for service excellence and a commitment to strengthening local communities. This culminated in the sale of the dealership group in 2016 to Holman Automotive of Maple Shade, New Jersey. Matt stayed on with Holman and served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel for both Holman’s national retail automotive division and Holman’s real estate department, which manages the company’s real estate portfolio throughout North America and Europe. Matt started his legal career at Stoel Rives LLP, where he was a highly-regarded associate in the firm’s corporate practice group.
Matt was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, and he has called the Pacific Northwest home for more than two decades. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he graduated Cum Laude with distinction, and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Minnesota Law School, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. In his free time, Matt enjoys kayaking, hiking, seeing live music and reading sci-fi novels. He and his wife Hanna are raising two girls in Lake Oswego.
